Leg #60, June 22, 2022, Presque Isle to Mackinaw City

We were underway at 7:04 a.m. Seas started out flat calm and built throughout the day. At 10:00 a.m. waves are 2' on the bow and building. By late morning and into the afternoon conditions were a bit uncomfortable and the wind was strong. There wasn't much opportunity for photos on this leg.

Coming into Straits Harbor Marina was of course windy and a challenge. Fighting being shoved on the starboard beam by high winds, Glen landed without issue. However, we were assigned a slip that was a bit to short considering the wind was pushing us straight into the dock with only inches to spare. Glen and the harbormaster made the decision to have us move to the other side of the dock in a longer slip. With good reason, I didn't want to get back out in the 20+ winds once we were in. But we did and the wind almost won this time. I'm glad I can say "almost". We barely got out of the fairway without incidence, but once around the corner we were able to get into the new slip, bow into the wind this time.

We were dock-mates with "Marla-D", friends from Traverse City and the USCG Auxiliary. It was fun to run into them there.

My in-laws, Paul and Karen met us there to welcome us back to Michigan and join us for dinner. We received a surprise call from Morgan, saying that she and Auden were on their way to see us as well. It was so good to see everyone after three months of being away. Can't wait to be home to see the rest of the family.

This is our last night away from home and tomorrows travel should be very nice. We are both excited to be going home. I'm pretty sure that Lainie recognized this marina and knows she is close to home.
