We departed our secluded Percy Reach, Lock 8 at 9:45 a.m.
It’s rainy and cold but we are underway. Another great experience on the Trent-Severn Canal. 10 locks today, with two of them being double chamber locks. We made it through Lock 18 and tied up on the upper wall with Gord and Jen (Holy Cow).
We had dinner at a bar and grille, just around the corner from where we were moored. We met the couple from Windless, a 34’ American Tug from St. Ignace, Michigan, they were on the wall below lock 18. We will see them again at the Great Lakes American Tug rendezvous in St. Ignace in August.
Water levels are high and the dams are opened, allowing for fast flow of water to make navigation possible for the upper locks.
Meyers Lock 9 (15' lift)
Haig's Reach Lock 10 (24' lift)
Ranney Falls Flight Locks 11 and 12 (48' lift)
Campbellford Lock 13 (23' lift)
Crowe Bay Lock 14 (26' lift)
Healey Falls Lock 15 (26' lift)
The swing bridge that opens with the lock is operated by the white truck seen in the photo. After years of the bridge mechanics breaking down, they found the use of this truck to be much more reliable.
Healey Falls Flight Locks 16 & 17 (48' lift). This is the sight of Trent River's largest dam and hydro generating station.
Hastings Lock 18 (9' lift)
It seems I didn't get photos of this lock. I remember it was an intimidating approach with water gushing at us out of two release areas and on a sharp bend into the lock canal.
The next morning, I did get pics of the top side where we tied up for the night.
Here's a few travel pics from the day:
