Departed at 7:20 from Donavan’s Mohawk Harbor Marina. Beautiful new marina but shallow and empty. We didn’t understand why nobody was in there. We made it in and out okay but much to shallow at the inlet for our comfort.
The morning was chilly with chances of rain in the morning and more definite in the afternoon but we went for it. Cleared locks 8 and 9 without issue.
While in lock 10 the first round of "chance" rain came through, drenching the two of us. Radar showed a bigger system behind it, so we tied up at the wall on the upper end of lock 10 at 10:20 a.m. Most locks offer free tie ups at each end of the lock. Some more rustic than others. This one is nice, with green grass along side the boat for the girls.
Lock E-10
We had lunch and contemplated the remainder of the day. At 2:05 the biggest threats were past us and we ventured out for one more lock and tied up at 2:55 on the upper end of lock 11. Our gain was a whopping four miles and electric hookup. About 20 miles total for the day. We’ll never make it home at this rate, but are still planning to be in Lake Ontario by this next Monday.
Lock E-11
After we tied up on the wall, we ventured over to the lock to watch a boat lock through. As we stood there watching, the lock attendant approached Glen and asked if he wanted to lock them through and told him what to do. Glen filled the lock and then opened the gate to allow passage. He then gave him a tour of the 150-year-old mechanism that operates the lock.
That afternoon and evening I caught up on our blog while Glen worked and caught up on family phone calls.
Glen made dinner and off to bed we go. 6:30 departure tomorrow for lock E-12 and beyond.
