Departed Solomons Island at 6:50 a.m. with low wind. The Patuxant River had 1-2’ swells on our bow. I can’t wait to get back to Solomons to do some exploring.
The travel was a bit hazy ( a lot like Lake Michigan). It’s a large body of water so we only really saw what was on the water. I’m enjoying the added water under our keel, but I miss the beauty of the narrow, wooded canals we’ve been traveling on. I guess we can’t have everything. At least not all at the same time. There were plenty different things to watch and look at along the way. Lighthouses, barges, boats, etc. ..
On our evening walk I discovered how much I love the Historic District of Annapolis with it's architecture, brick roads, groomed gardens and history. This was probably my favorite city so far on this trip and we will return for a longer stay.
Annapolis is also home to the Naval Academy which we were able tour. It was wonderful to see the young officers in town wearing their dress white uniforms.
We stayed at the City Dock right in the heart of the action of the historic district. The narrow body of water that we were in is known as "the alley". We docked without issue on a wall using a side tie (I think we were the second boat in there). As it filled up I stressed over how we would get out of the narrow space. That night we had dinner onboard and sat up top to people watch. A couple of people stopped by for handouts and others to talk about the boat or looping.
In the morning Glen spun Saunter around right where she sat and we were underway.
I encourage everyone to make Annapolis a destination of choice.
Sometimes also referred to as ”ego alley“.
Great update! Commissioning (graduation) week next week and Blue Angels over the Severn. Great air show from a boat.
