Duane assisted with our lines as we got underway at 7:00 a.m. and we said goodbye to our friend one more time. As we entered the Elizabeth River, headed north we were immediately captivated by the immense amount of Government Navy ships and yards. An array of war ships for miles as we travelled between Portsmouth and Norfolk, VA. What an impressive and humbling sight.
Unfortunately, I didn't get photos of the Navy Shipyards. Glen tried to take photos of the eclipse the night before and I didn't check my settings before taking 50 pictures. I also lost photos of a fort and lighthouses. Soooo frustrating!
We entered Chesapeake Bay headed North. It was a great day on the water. The Chesapeake has a reputation for being choppy, but not today. We landed in Deltaville at Regatta Point Marina around 1:00 p.m. and the dockmaster stated that there was a weather front coming in. Ten minutes after we tied up and walked the girls, the wind picked up, and rain came down with a few hail stones. Twenty minutes after that, the sun came out and it was a beautiful day. The rest of the day Glen worked, and we relaxed a bit.
At 5:00 we fixed a drink, grabbed the girls and sat on the long porch of the Harbormaster’s building and enjoyed the view. We talked with a few local people then returned to the boat to have Coinjock, Prime Rib nachos. The prime rib is finally gone! Not many boats came in today, so the marina was quiet.
Regatta Point is our layover stop to do a little catch up. We got up just as early on Tuesday but didn’t get underway. Glen stated work early and I got a couple loads of laundry out of the way and some housekeeping. This is a nice marina to be at. They are very dog friendly, have that long porch with white rockers that I mentioned, a very nice bath house, a grill area and a swimming pool. There isn’t much within walking distance, but they do have a courtesy car to get into town.
We did use the courtesy car and the person that used it before us brought it back on E. Yep! Thanks guy! Fortunately, we made it to a gas station and added a little extra for the next guy. We did our provisioning and returned to Saunter and the girls. In the evening we went back up on the porch and met a couple up there that we had talked with earlier in the day. They have a Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog and Poodle) named Magnolia that came out to play with Lainie and Shelby. Their boat name is “SEE LIFE”. We visited for a bit before headed off to grill up some amazing hamburgers and added a cottage cheese salad.
Goodnight, Regatta Point Marina, Deltaville. Tomorrow’s destination, Solomons Island, MD. One more state to check off.
Oops, Shelby got left outside. She followed me out and I got back in without her. She is always right at my heals. She wasn't understanding the situation at all.
