Travel to Coinjock began at 7:00 with heavy fog while leaving the marina but soon lifted and surrounded us in a ring of clouds with blue skies above. What a difference a day makes. It was a blissful day with only two or three boats passing by. This was a much-appreciated change from yesterday’s congestion. The Albemarle Sound which has a nasty reputation was flat with no wind. We arrived in Coinjock at 11:30 a.m. just behind Parakana.
There isn’t much to do in Coinjock except watch boats go by and eat prime rib at the Coinjock Restaurant. So, I spent my afternoon on the top deck watching all the traffic roll in behind us. The marina, due to an influx of traffic would be rafting boats two deep along their 1200’ face dock. We tucked our stern up tight to Perikana’s bow and our bow overhung the next boats stern, and so on down the dock.
At 3:30 p.m. our rafting buddy showed up. I was nervous. No, I was scared because the rafting buddy for Perikana didn’t have a clue what they were doing, and they were not prepared. Two dock hands were yelling at them, Glen jumped on Perikana to assist Duane and the finally got them settled with no damage done. When ours came in I said I couldn’t watch but I did and took pictures. The captain rafting alongside of us did an exceptional job and cozied himself right up tight. Check! Our first rafting done.
At 4:00 p.m. we had 10 others on our top deck for docktails and light appetizers prior to our 5:00 reservation for dinner. Glen and I had pre-ordered the 32 oz. Captain’s Cut Prime Rib for just the two of us. Another couple did the same and everyone else just ordered select steaks. It was as good as promised and we will be eating steak for two or three more days. Lainie and Shelby celebrated their birthdays (Lainie today, Shelby tomorrow) with prime rib added to their evening dinner.
What a fun day and a delightful group of people to be traveling with.
Just for fun:
Coinjock is a must stop at least once. It has a new ships store and nice facilities. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. And don't forget to grab some Prime Rib!
You two are having such a great time! It is fun to follow along, Lynda!
