What a crazy day. Friday the 13th was going to live up to her reputation! We got underway at 7:00 a.m. We were the third boat out in our convoy that built to probably 50 boats for the day. A lot of the faster boats passed and continued to Coinjock (tomorrows destination) and about 12 of us landed here in the Alligator River Marina. There is absolutely nothing here. But it’s a great protected harbor to stay a single evening and hit the Albemarle Sound bright and early before the wind picks up.
The day started out with bright lower sky and high fog and by 9:00 a.m., heavy, thick fog with heavy rain and thunder and lightning all around us. A little scary and intimidating but there we were, no place else to go, next stop Alligator River. About 12:30 the sky started to open to the sun and it warmed up nicely. Just in time for our 1:15 arrival. The afternoon was hit an miss showers with sunshine and 73 degrees. We joined others for docktails at 5:30 where we met a lot more people we will be traveling with.
We met Tim and Tricia of Tricia Anne who are from our home town of Charlevoix. Actually Beaver Island but same county. We are continually amazed at the amount of people who are from the area and/or have been there.
Again, not many photos of our travel but here is one taken by Tricia Anne.
Alligator River is a great place to jump off for a morning departure across the Albemarle Sound but not a destination.
