A long week of waiting out the storm that chased us inland to Washington was finally allowing us to leave. We left for Belhaven at 7:20a.m. under fog, haze and still some wind. We got into more wind than anticipated but Saunter handled herself beautifully. The Pamlico River had 2-3’ waves and the Pungo River increased to 3-4’ with occasional 5’ and 30 mph gust. Once we turned the corner into Belhaven the seas were calm and the wind was down to 7mph.
We arrived in Belhaven at 12:25. I love these short days. What a charming area and a quirky little marina. They put a lot of care into it, with crafty and fun (quirky) decorations. They made it a fun place to stay, and the girls were allowed to run off leash with other dogs. What fun for them as well!
Perikana came in shortly after us and we talked with them for a bit about their travel plans (where are you from?, where are you going?). We will be going to the next few places together. We had dinner together at Jacks Tavern and had a lovely time. Duane and Michelle are from Australia, and we truly enjoyed their company.
No underway photos due to weather.
Here’s my continued story from leg #27. The mail that we missed in Washington was hand delivered to us by Rick in Belhaven after he ended his shift at 8:00 p.m. This is just one of the many incredible things that made the Washington Waterfront Marina so, so special. Another worker, Anthony loaned us his charts for the Hudson Bay area and we will mail them back to him when we are home. Those people went above and beyond!
Happy Birthday to my mother-in-law, Amy.
