Today we travelled with Tina Maria to River Dunes under sunny but hazy skies. Thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon. Traveling long, skinny and shallow channels this morning.
We are having issues with a glare on our electronics, making it hard to read them. We haven’t experienced this before. It must have something to do with the combination of the haze, sun and direction of travel. We did a lot of east, northeast, west and even south travel. At 10:00 we were in open blue water and about 18’ of it on the New Port River and we were FINALLY HEADED NORTH.
Not many photos of our travel due to the haze.
We arrived at 1:15 p.m. What a gorgeous marina! We stopped at the fuel dock and took on just over 400 gallons of diesel. The clubhouse and grounds (including a pool) were phenomenal.
There were so many jelly fish in the harbor. Some as big as Shelby. Yikes!
We moved over to our slip and were undecided if we were only staying the night or would hold up here for the week while we let the coastal storm pass. This is our friends home port and they will be in tomorrow and would like us to stay.
We decided we would leave in the morning and get just a bit closer to our next stop. River Dunes is a beautiful community but not much to do (other than lounge) for a week.
We fixed a drink and went to the pool for a short bit before preparing dinner onboard and relaxing the rest of the evening.
In the morning, Glen did his regular engine checks and when he cleaned the strainers, one of them was full of jelly goop. Yep, we sucked up a jelly fish or two. We went to talk to David and Tina (Tina Marie) before heading out and the suggested Washington, NC. instead of Belhaven for the week. It’s their home port and they are very proud it. David said there was a lot to do while held up for a time. We went back to prepare to leave and after discussing it we both decided even though it is a couple hours (each way) out of our way it might be good to have some entertainment for us
and parks for the girls. We were able to get a slip at the Washington Waterfront Marina, right in town at the city park and river walk.
Our friends Chris and Sheena (Higher Ground) will try to visit us in Washington one night and we will go to a local gin distillery and restaurant that they suggested.
If you are in the Oriental, NC. Area we would suggest staying at River Dunes Marina and while you are there, say hi to Chris and Sheena.
