We arrived in Washington, NC on Thursday, May 5, 2022 with anticipations of being here until May 12th. There is a storm we are avoiding on the east coast with sustained winds of 50 mph. We are still getting some of the effects here in Washington but we are in a safe location until we are comfortable getting back underway.
Here's a little history on Washington, NC. What’s in a name? Washington was named after General George Washington, the first community in America to do so. Folks call it “Little Washington” to distinguish it from D.C., although some local seniors say “The Original Washington.” This small town on the Pamlico River is a haven from a hectic world. Founded in 1776, Washington once served as a major shipping center. Two fires destroyed many old buildings, but due to proud rebuilding, its Historic District boasts styles of revival, federal, Greek and Victorian architecture from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
As we move from Sauntering the Pamlico River, we Saunter along Washington’s boardwalk, with wide-water views, peaceful sounds of nature, boats to admire and plenty of benches to relax on.
We look forward to exploring this "small town gem".
Leg #27 to follow.
Definitely a monster. Stay Safe.
