Leg #6 - Englewood to Fort Meyers Bridges, bridges, everywhere are bridges.

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

Good afternoon. So yesterday was a day of bridges. I thought life moved slow on a tug but, put that tug on the Intracoastal waterway (ICW) with currents and bridges and it slows down even more. Bikers on nearby trails were passing us. That's not a bad thing. Why rush through life when you can "Saunter"? 11+ hours underway. We crossed under so many bridges while we enjoyed the beautiful scenery, the many boats, mostly overcast skies and little wind. Put all that together and it was a gorgeous day on the water.

We were anxious to arrive at our dockage for the night. Until we saw it. LOL. Another experience to remember. We had a little mix up in harbors. Royal Palm Harbor and Palm Harbor. One in desperate need of repair, the other a resort. We got in at dusk at an extreme low tide and yes, we did hit. At one point our stern came up to meet the bow level. Glen said "Oh No" as he looked at the depth just before the bump. I gasped and we were over and through it that quick. No damage. We pulled up to a long cement dock that was heaving at each joint. She was certainly still recovering from Hurricane Michael. Or that's the excuse I gave them. A very tiny women named Kim who was full of energy and enthusiasm ran to assist us. She lived on three boats in the marina. There was a bar with live music and they were packed. After taking the dogs for their much needed walk (No green grass in sight) we settled back in the salon and listened to the music before bed.

The marina didn't look quite as rough in the morning but, still not good. We had to wait for a few hours for the tide to come while we eagerly anticipated our departure. On the bright side of waiting, we got to spend a couple of hours with friends, Barry and Cindy aboard Saunter. It was an very enjoyable morning in deed.

Departure was challenging with tides, currents and winds. Thank goodness for rub rails.

Recommendation! Don't stay at Royal Palm Marina. $3 per foot per night (with BoatUS discount), cement docks, shotty electric, no water and NO boater facilities only public which was opened 24/7 to all and not secure. Although the men were good with it, I was thankful to have everything I needed onboard. In the end it was all good.

Tonight will be different as we are booked at a very nice marina, Legacy Harbour Marina in Fort Meyers. At the same price! And I plan to enjoy it with a fresh pineapple martini, thanks to Cindy and Barry. Cheers to another good day!
