Underway at 6:45 and the Inlet was already ugly! Hold on to your seats, it’s a rollercoaster ride! Deep water, offshore and rough. This was not a pleasant ride for about 2 hours and then it calmed for a bit. Coming into NY Harbor was pretty calm until we turned up the Hudson and found ourselves in currents, tide and the wind was picking up. Not to mention ferry’s, barges, freighters, law enforcement and other pleasure craft. What a jungle.
We travelled with Cavu and we each agreed to take the others photo as we passed before the Statue of Liberty. What a humbling experience to be on the water and at the feet of Lady Liberty.
All that behind us, we found our way out of the river and up the channel to Liberty Landing where the current had slowed but the wind was still kicking. We pulled bow into a slip that was a bit to short to allow us to used the swim platform for dock access so we had to back out into the narrow fairway, turn around and then go stern into the slip. Glen did awesome!
Right away we knew we (I) wanted to stay here for two nights. Good company, great view and lots of grass for the girls. Just had to do some juggling of our itinerary and reservations.
In the evening Compass Rose hosted docktails with us, Moxie, Long Recess and Currently. After walking down to the river for sunset photos of NYC, we returned to Saunter and had a nice anniversary dinner.
The next morning, we took the water taxi over to NYC and visited the Freedom Tower and Memorial, walked about town and had lunch at O’Hara’s Irish Pub, which sits just beside where the South Tower was and was buried in debris on 9/11. We came back and gave the girls a bath and worked for a bit. That evening dinner was light (snacks) and early to bed so we could be underway around 6:00 a.m. to take advantage of the tide and currents.
Liberty Landing is in Jersey City, NJ. just across the Hudson Bay from New York City. We had a great view of the Jersey City skyline at our bow, a simply amazing view of the New York City skyline to the East and Lady Liberty stood just out our back door. It was a truly humbling experience. The marina is clean with floating docks and highly skilled dockhands eager to please and assist. There is a restaurant, ships store with a little of everything, clean facilities, LOTS of grass for our girls and easy access to NYC by water taxi.
Very cool!
